Karachi - 1st ODI

While Pakistan have lost only one Test out of 36 played at the National Stadium in Karachi, their record is not that impressive in the shorter version of the game on this ground.

In fact the hosts have lost more matches than they have won on this ground - 12 losses and 11 wins out of 25 games to be precise.

Teams batting second have a better chance to win here. Out of the 27 matches, the team batting second has won 14, while team batting first has won 11. Two matches were abandoned after crowd disturbance, including the one between India and Pakistan in 1989-90.

That victory ratio is maintained in day matches as well, with the team batting second winning 13 matches out of a total of 22 decisive matches.

The wicket on this ground is batsman-friendly, as 10,969 runs have been scored here for the loss of 320 wickets at an average of 34.28.

Seamers have been more successful than spinners on this wicket. Out of the six four-wicket match hauls, only two have gone to spinners as against four to seamers.

India's record at National Stadium, Karachi: played- 3, won- 1, lost- 1, no result- 1.

About the city:
With a population of over 120 million, Karachi is the most important commercial and industrial centre of Pakistan. The beautiful golden beaches of Sandspit and Hawkes Bay in their peaceful surroundings offer rest and relaxation with plenty of opportunities for water-skiing and yachting.

Among the recently-constructed landmarks of architectural interest are the Defense Mosque with its massive 63.6m dome, Hill Park, the Mausoleum of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the Victorian Frere Hall, constructed of limestone and surrounded by Jinnah Gardens.

Karachi is easily connected to other places of archaeological interest, such as Mohenjedaro, Thatta, Chaukandi Tombs, Bhambore and Hyderabad.

The inaugural One-day International in Karachi was between Pakistan and the West Indies on November 21, 1980. India have played three matches (1 won, 1 lost, 1 no-result) against Pakistan at this venue.
