The F-16 fighter jets, which Pakistan will acquire from the United States, will increase the country's strategic capability, President General Pervez Musharraf [Images] said on Monday.

As there is no limit on the quantum of warplanes being offered to it, Pakistan will decide on the number of aircraft it will purchase after assessing the requirement, state-run PTV quoted Musharraf as saying in Karachi.

"It was our longstanding demand, which has now been met," Musharraf said in his first reaction to the US' decision to sell F-16s to Pakistan.

He said Pakistan is being offered the latest version of F-16s, which will help in the modernisation of the Pakistan air force.
