A Special CBI court on Wednesday convicted 39 people of fraudulently withdrawing Rs 7.21 crore from Ranchi treasury in the 1990s but acquitted three others, including a former treasury officer of the charges.

Judge J K N Tiwari sentenced 13 of them to three years' rigorous imprisonment and slapped fines ranging between Rs 45,000 and Rs 65,000.

The court will pronounce sentences against the rest of them on Thursday.

The court acquitted three others, including former treasury officer K N Jha who is already serving jail term after being convicted in five other cases in the multi-crore fodder scam.

Treasury officials and suppliers were among the convicted.

This was the 18th case to end in conviction, in the case.

The Rs 950 crore fodder scam was unearthed in the mid-1990s when Jharkhand state was not carved out of undivided Bihar and 53 cases were transfered to Jharkhand after bifurcation.
