The Bihar government has decided to conduct the trial of Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Parliament Mohammed Shahabuddin in Siwan jail after his return from New Delhi, where he was operated at AIIMS.

His trial was earlier delayed on health grounds.

Bihar Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah told rediff.com on Sunday that Shahabuddin's trial will be conducted in Siwan jail as he is likely to return there in the next 10 to 15 days time.

"The government has decided to conduct his trial in Siwan jail immediately after his return from New Delhi. Arrangements will be made for it," Amanullah said.

Shahabuddin was operated at AIIMS for his spinal problem on Saturday while under judicial custody and is said to be doing well in ICU.

Patna high court in September ordered the Bihar government to immediately conduct the trial of Shahabuddin through video-conferencing for expeditious disposal of pending cases against him.

But the government failed to conduct it as it did not make arrangements for trial through video-conferencing.

The Siwan MP was admitted to AIIMS early August for his spinal problem following a directive of the Patna high court.

Shahabuddin is involved in over 40 criminal cases, including murder, abduction and possession of illegal arms. He was lodged at the Siwan jail before being shifted to AIIMS.
