Russia backs India for Security Council seat

Russia on Friday backed India's candidature for permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council.

"Russia considers India as a strong and worthy contender for the UN Security Council seat," Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said at a joint press conference with External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh here.
