Remember Ram Dhan, V P Singh's aide when he broke off from Rajiv Gandhi? He won the seat for the first time in 1967, as the Congress candidate, and repeated his performance in 1971 as well. In 1977 he was the BLD candidate, and he got elected MP for the third consecutive time. He lost the 1980 election not to the Congress, but to another faction of the Janata Party, and returned to the Congress. For which party he won the seat again in 1984. He won the 1989 and 1991 elections as the JD candidate. In 1996, the seat went to the BSP's Bali Ram, who defeated the SP's Daroga Prashad Saroj by 55,000 votes. The BJP's Shyam Dhar was behind the BSP by just 40 votes!
