Till 1984, barring 1977, this constituency returned only the Congress, and in 1989 for the first time the JD was elected. In 1991, the seat turned to the BJP's Chhotey Lal. In 1996, it stayed with the BJP, electing its Purnima Verma with 164,586 votes, who defeated the SP's Suntvaksh Rawat by 32,000 votes.
