Runner Up: BJP Surinder Pal Pathak 130966
Margin: 57102 (11.59%)

In 1971, Dharamraj Singh managed to break the Jan Sangh's hold over this constituency which had won the previous elections, but he was unable to hold in 1977. But 1980, 1984 and 1989 saw him return to Parliament on the Congress ticket, before being defeated by the BJP's Surendra Pathak in 1991. In 1996, Pathak was defeated by the BSP's Aliyas Azmi by 58,000 votes, with the Congress's Naresh Chandra Aggarwal coming third.
