State: Rajasthan
Constituency: Jhalawar
Total Votes Polled: 480543
Winner: BJP Vasundhara Raje 234360
Runner Up: INC Mansingh 185476
Margin: 48884 (10.41%)

The Congress won the first three elections from here, and its MP in 1962, Brijraj Singh, crossed over to the Jan Sangh and won the next two elections on its ticket -- which perhaps explains the seat's affinity for the BJP's Vasundhara Raje Scindia, who has won it for the BJP the last three elections. In 1996, her victory margin over the Congress's Mansingh was nearly 50,000 votes. Incidentally, Brijraj Singh fought the 1977 and 1980 elections as a Congressman and lost to the BLD/JD's Chaturbhuj.
