Rabi Ray was elected from here as a socialist in 1967; the next time he contested from here, in 1980 and 1984, he was defeated by the Congress's Lakshman Mallick. Loknath Choudhary won this seat for the CPI in 1989 and 1991, but in 1996 Ranjib Biswal took it back for the Congress. Choudhary came fourth, winning just 5.64 % of the vote, when in the previous election he had secured 49.1 % of the vote.
