The pilgrim centre voted the PWP in 1952, and the Congress lost this seat once again in 1971, to the Republican Party of India-Gavai. All the other elections have been won by the Congress, and that too by just two candidates. T H Sonawane won in 1957, 1961 and 1967, and Sandipan B Thorat has been MP from 1977 onwards to the present day, winning six elections on the trot.
