Rajkumari Amrit Kaur was elected in the 1952 election, and it was represented by current Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh in 1971 and 1980. More recently, it burst into the news as the constituency of the tainted Sukh Ram who, barring 1989, has been representing this seat consistently. In 1996, in fact, his margin over his nearest BJP rival was around 15,000 votes.
