Ishwar Choudhary led a charmed existence. Winning the 1971 election on the Bharatiya Jana Sangh ticket, she retained the seat in 1977 but on a Bharatiya Lok Dal ticket. She lost the 1980 election on the Janata Party ticket, lost the 1984 election on a BJP ticket and won in 1989 as a BJP candidate. In 1991, the BJP was nowhere to be found, but in 1996 it had come back to the second place, just 60,000 votes behind the Janata Dal.
