Jagjivan Ram did not meet with success the first time he entered the fray from here in 1957. He did after that, till his death, till 1984. In 1989 and 1991 his daughter Meira Kumar contested on a Congress ticket and lost to Chhedi Paswan of the JD. in 1996 Paswan was worsted by Muni Lal of the BJP.
