The first full-fledged 3D Kannada film, Katari Veera Sura Sundaraangi, will hit the screens this Thursday. Described as a social fantasy fun film and a mythological, it has Ramya playing a mythological character for the first time.

In this interview with Srikanth Srinivasa, Ramya talks about her role in the film and her experience working in a 3D film.

What is Katari Veera Sura Sundaraangi about?

It isa love story between a goddess and a mortal. It has drama and comedy. It is a mythological and a social fantasy fun film.

What is your role in the film?

I play the mythological character Indraja, who is Lord Indra's daughter.

What sort of costumes do you wear in the movie?

The costumes I wear are very elegant and extremely elaborate. I wear heavy jewellery and my hair is all made up.

Producer Munirathna sir has taken great pains to choose my outfits and jewellery. He was very particular about the costumes I wear. My character demanded poise and beauty.

I had to wake up at 4 am to report for the shoot at 9 am because I had to put on all this heavy jewellery and costumes.

How does it feel to be part of the first full-fledged 3D film in Kannada?

It is a matter of great pride for me and I feel lucky to be a part of it.

What were the special instructions you got from the director and the cameraman during the shoot?

Nothing much. I was well taken care of. Our cameraman Venu always took special interest in making me look elegant in the film.

Director Suresh Krissna was very fast and planned the shots well. Everything happened on time and as scheduled.

Did you find any difference working in front of a 3D camera?

I saw the rushes as we were shooting on location. We would all sit in front of the 3D monitor after the shots and talk about it excitedly.

I would keep pinching myself and telling myself how lucky I was to be a part of this experience.

3D needs to be meticulous. Every speck can be seen, so it had to be perfect. We had to be careful about every shot.

'I need challenging roles and not something I've already done before'

What can the audiences expect to see from this film and from Ramya?

Well, it's the whole 3D experience that's very thrilling. It makes movie watching more fun with the family.

About me, you have to watch and tell me.

You are working with Upendra after a long time and with some senior artistes like Ambarish, Doddanna and Sridhar.

It is always an honour to work with experienced and senior actors. It is not only helpful but also a learning experience. They were all extremely nice to me and I was pampered on the sets!!

Is it true that you directed a romantic number in this film? Was it your own initiative?

I only suggested a few shots for the dhak dhak song. I felt that the song needed more intimacy as the entire film is about the love between my character and Upendra's. The only place we got to express it was during the song. It is a very sensuous song.

'I am responsible to my fans'

Can the audiences expect to see Ramya in a different avatar in this film?

Yes. You will definitely see me looking different and speaking differently in the film. This is my first mythological role.

What do you have to say about your reported exit from three projects in Kannada?

One film was a remake of a Korean film so I backed out. As for the second one, I didn't like the story. It was very blah!

I need challenging roles and not something I've already done before. I am responsible to my fans.

I will be hearing the script of Johnny 2 next week and will take a call on that soon after. I have signed Kodi Ramakrishna's first Kannada film which will start in the second week of June.

What do you have to say about being ignored for the state film awards once again?

I wasn't surprised because I wasn't expecting any award. I did feel a little bad though. I am quite sensitive.

What keeps me going are my fans and the fact that they appreciate my films and the films do well at the box office.
