Suspects in Rakesh Roshan shootout will be arrested soon, say police

Crime branch sleuths who, along with the city police, are investigating the attempt on the life of actor-director Rakesh Roshan on January 21, have identified the gangsters and "hope to arrest them soon," police sources in Bombay revealed.

Roshan, who suffered two bullet injuries, was discharged from Nanavati hospital in north-west Bombay on January 26, doctors attending on him said. "Mr Roshan is fine and has gone home."

As many as 12 people were picked up for interrogation, according to Additional Commissioner of Police (north-west region) Subhash Awte. He said that though the investigations were still on, the police would soon be able to arrest the accused.

Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who also holds the home portfolio, said the two assailants are suspected to be affiliated to the Abu Salem faction of the Dawood Ibrahim gang.

Asked if Roshan had received threats, a senior official, on condition of anonymity, said he might have been receiving "extortion threats" as his latest movie Kaho Naa.. Pyaar Hai was a box office hit. In fact, after the sensational Gulshan Kumar murder case, Roshan had been provided security but it was later withdrawn a year later on the actor-director's request, he said.

No arrests have been made so far.
