RBI appeal to taxpayers

March 26, 2004 19:22 IST

The Reserve Bank of India on Friday asked taxpayers to remit their income tax dues well in advance at its counters or in special branches of SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank and UTI Bank to avoid last minute rush.

"It becomes difficult for the banks to cope with the pressure of receipts although additional counters to the maximum extent possible are provided for the purpose," RBI said, adding that assessees are advised to remit income tax dues sufficiently in advance to avoid last minute rush.

Assessees may also take advantage of the additional arrangements in branches of SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, UTI Bank and IDBI Bank, which are authorised to accept payment of income tax dues.
