Canon to set up software development centre in Delhi

Email this story to a friend. Canon India Private Limited, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Canon Singapore Private Limited, has announced plans to set up a software development centre in India to provide business equipment related software technologies for the Canon Group worldwide.

To be set up in New Delhi with an initial investment of $1 million, the Canon Software Development Centre is expected to design and develop sophisticated software for use in Canon products.

The centre will focus primarily on the development of document managing database software, an integral component of networks, and systems of document managing database software to support the development of products for the multimedia age.

Canon is optimistic that the CSDC will be functional by second quarter of 1999. Apart from developing software, it will also liaison with Indian software vendors currently exporting software to Canon Inc.

Canon is targeting a sales turnover of $3 million in the first full year of operation of the development centre.

Canon has also obtained Foreign Investment Promotion Board approval to employ a direct marketing route for specific models of high-end technology faxes and direct promotional support for Canon printers by the company.
